Maria Kononov was born in 1997 in the United States. She began painting when she was three years old, and her first exhibition was in Brussels when Maria was only eight years old. Despite her youth, she has more than 30 solo exhibitions in the world’s largest cities, such as Moscow, Saint Petersburg, London, Paris, Vienna, Amsterdam, Milan, Rome, Bologna, New York, Melbourne and many others. In 2015, she became the youngest member of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS). In 2017, Maria had a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale at the Palazzo Zenobio. So it’s no surprise that her work can now be found in private collections around the world.

The characters of the painting are the Aetolian princess Leda and the king of the gods Zeus, turned into a swan. The result of this union was the birth of Elena the Beautiful, a woman who, according to ancient mythology, was the most beautiful in the world.
