German Historical and Portrait Painter. Member of the Prussian Academy of Arts since 1880.
In 1842 he entered the University of Königsberg, where he was an active member of the student community.
On his return to Königsberg he married the artist Francisca Libreh (1824-1893). One of their sons, Boto, became a well-known art historian. Sabine’s daughter married the painter Reinhold Lepsius and became a famous artist herself.
